A step forward
By Paco Nueda, IT Consultant, Gongo Labs.
Most of the companies in the linguistic services sector offer a wide range of services in order to empower leverage of the knowledge of the staff and collaborators. This applies also to Dixon.
Their General Manager has got a clear picture about what kind of services they should be able to provide:
- Big projects that involve a large number of collaborators geographically dispersed with experience in diverse subject areas
- Multiple small projects with limited budget and different quality requirements
- Services based upon time/resources, such as interpreting and learning
Taking these requirements into account they decided to choose ]project-open[ as an EPM tool in 2005, and they advanced further still with an important update in 2007.
The migration was complex because they had introduced some customization affecting important parts of the system. Gongo Labs worked side by side with the ]project-open[ Core Team. Some of the customization were already included in the new version, thus the biggest challenge was the migration of the whole data model into the new structure. There were important changes, but the tech team carried out an excellent work.
The system was also virtualized, and that allowed a contingency plan with recovery from scratch within a few hours. Gongo Labs also was in charge of developing a set of templates for financial documents according to the corporate image of Dixon.
For the time being the company is interested in extending their use of custom reporting in order to optimize their financial analysis. "We are focused on improving our activity reports, and we are cognisant that we have to apply best practices to the data input, and aware that in ]project-open[ this is achievable while maintaining its easy use."
